Whilst Adult Services might be a smaller cost component in our overall spending that does not properly reflect the level of demand for support for our young people, many of who have been service users of Enable Ability since a young age.

Our experience with young people in seeing them mature and develop over the years with us has been very rewarding, but the facts of life are that funding from many sources for older children with physical disabilities or learning difficulties is less attractive for many funding bodies and thus it is an on-going struggle to fully support their obvious needs.

A disappointment in the whole system is the ability to secure our young people’s future beyond the age of 25 by getting them into meaningful employment. Enable Ability is committed to doing something about this through the establishment of a social enterprise and working with various local agencies to address this need. We were delighted when the National Lottery Community Fund agreed to fund this activity for three years and from September 2019 our new service ‘Inter Activ‘ has started work to get up to 24 young people into meaningful employment in a year’s time.
