Nearly 2 weeks ago, our brave skydivers took the 10,000ft leap of faith at the GoSkydive airspace in Salisbury, to raise funds for Enable Ability!
The team of 6 including Michelle, Harriet, Molly, Charlotte, Claire and Terri, are all (bar one) staff members of the charity, so it was because of their love and dedication to Enable Ability and the children they support, that saw them raise funds for such a worthwhile cause!
The initial time slot was booked for 11am, but due to increasingly high winds, the team was pipped to the post and all flights put on a ‘weather hold’. This didn’t dampen the team’s and supporters’ high spirits, as they took to a little self-entertainment to bide the time.
After a long 5 hours wait, and unfortunately 1 person down (due to the waiting time), the team finally got the go ahead to take to the sky! As you can see below, the views were just incredible!
Hollie, Partnerships and Events Officer from Enable Ability, who went along to capture aspects of the day said,
“Albeit a long day, it went so well- there was such a buzz from everyone who went along. Watching from below, it was such a spectacular and exciting sight to see everyone safely parachuting to the ground. We all had such a great time! The emotions from friends and family once the team came back was something quite special.”
Over the last fortnight, funds have still been trickling in, and we are so pleased to announce that the latest figure raised by the team was £1732.68 (with a little more gift aid to come)!! The ladies are already planning their next big fundraising adventure for Enable Ability!
We think it’s safe to say that each and every person that took part loved the whole experience, and we hear they’d do it all again- but at the higher altitude!!
Some of the skydivers had this to say about their experience:
“This is the best experience I have ever had, let’s go higher next time! So proud of us all.”- Charlotte Alice- Jane, EA Deputy Team Leader
“I was very nervous about jumping out of the plane to start with, but once we were up there, that all went away and it was such an amazing feeling- free-falling, then steering my parachute! Knowing that the money raised is for such a good cause made it worth it- I can’t wait to do it again!” – Michelle, EA Team Leader
“I was so nervous beforehand and didn’t know what to expect. I’d never even been on a plane before! The whole experience was amazing, word’s can’t even describe. Knowing we’ve raised money for our fantastic services is what really made the day special.” – Claire, EA Team Leader
“Most amazing experience! It was absolutely breath-taking and the views were incredible. Think we are all in agreement to do 15,000ft next time!” – Harriet, EA Deputy Team Leader
A huge thank you to Michelle, Harriet, Molly, Charlotte and Claire from all of us at Enable Ability, for raising such a fantastic amount for our charity, and to those who made their fundraising efforts so worthwhile! This will go a long way in supporting our children and adults with disabilities, including purchasing some new equipment. And of course a big thanks to Robin, the charity’s Advocacy Manager, who drove the team to the airfield and back on the day!
The whole experience couldn’t have taken place without the team at GoSkydive- so a huge thanks goes to them too! The day was very well organised.
We are hoping that Terri enjoys her skydive once she has rescheduled it- we’d love to see some pictures Terri!
