Enable Ability are delighted to announce that its Wheelchair Basketball project has won £5,500- thanks to the team over at Wave 105 Cash for Kids, following their Sports Challenge in 2022.
The challenge (which took place during September and October of last year) saw charities and community groups battle it out to raise as much as they could during the 4-week challenge period. Whoever raised the most, would win up to £5,000 in top-up funding, with £2,500 granted for second place, and £1,500 given to the third place winner. The Sports Challenge also had 2 additional prizes of £500 to give away: one for the ‘Most Creative Fundraiser’, and one for ‘Best Social Media’.
With combined efforts from Katie (WCBB Leader), Hollie (Partnerships and Events Officer) and all of our supporters, Enable Ability managed to raise a whopping £9,489- taking us to the top spot to win the first prize of £5,000! Fundraising events included Golf Days and a charity cycle run by Hayling Golf Club; a Bingo night at Starbucks; and support from numerous runners who completed the Great South Run (to name a few). To top it off, Sam and Judith from Wave 105 Cash for Kids were so impressed with the stories Katie told through our social media channels, that we went on to win one of the additional prizes of £500 for ‘Best Social Media’, taking our award to a whopping £5,500*!!
EA Wheelchair Basketball is open to both wheelchair and non-wheelchair users, to make it an inclusive sport for all. It has trained many players, who have gone on to play for Great Britain in the National League! Please check out the project page here. It costs approximately £1,000 to purchase a new specialist wheelchair for the WCBB project- so we are so grateful to Sam and the Wave 105 team for their support!
Thank you to everyone who helped us achieve this award. We look forward to competing in the Wave 105 Cash for Kids Sports Challenge this year….. watch this space.
