Southsea Fire crew and Enable Ability’s Youth Project lathered up and hosed down all in aid of charity in May.
From 10am to 4pm on Sunday 21st May, Southsea Fire Station hosted their very first Fire Station Charity Car Wash which raised money for both the Firefighters Charity, and local disability charity, Enable Ability.
The fundraising event, which has previously been held at another venue over the years, is the first car wash event held at the Fire Station itself. It was well planned by the fire crew, with various ‘stations’ set out for each part of the car washing regime. 11 firefighters and a team of staff and service users who form Enable Ability’s Youth Project, rolled up their sleeves, donned their wellies, and gathered their sponges and brooms ready for action!
Motorists came to have their cars washed in return for a donation to the two charities- it was a great way to raise money! The Fire Fighters Charity has provided assistance nationwide to serving and retired firefighters for more than 60 years. Enable Ability works with children, young people and adults with disabilities living in Portsmouth and South-East Hampshire.
Not only were customers greeted with friendly faces, but Hampshire Cosplayers for Charity also came along to help entice motorists in to have their cars cleaned. In attendance were two Ghostbusters, a mini Stay Puft, Spiderman, Loki, Captain America, and Harley Quinn. The cosplayers, along with the fire crew and Enable Ability team, raised a whopping £1000 which will be split equally between the 2 charities.
We can’t thank the Southsea Fire Crew and the Hampshire Cosplayers enough for their support for our very first joint Charity Car Wash. The young people from Enable Ability had a really great time- even with the cheeky buckets of water let down at the end!
Thank you to everyone who came to have their cars washed with us!
