We are incredibly grateful to Alex, parent of one of our Hampshire Junior Club’s service users, who recently took on the amazing challenge of a 13,500ft skydive to raise funds for Enable Ability!
Skydiving from such a height is no small feat – at 13,500ft, you’re jumping from the equivalent of over 41 football pitches stacked on top of each other! The freefall alone can reach speeds of 120mph before the parachute opens, making it an exhilarating and unforgettable experience.
Alex said,
“I did this for my daughter, aged 12, who uses Enable Ability’s Junior Club. I’ve always wanted to do a skydive, so it was a great opportunity to join in when Enable Ability put the word out about their Charity Skydive days. It was a good excuse to jump on board (excuse the pun!)”
Alex’s first attempt at the skydive was put on hold due to severe weather conditions, but Nether Avon were able to re-arrange the flight for the next day. He continued….
“They booked me in for an earlier flight, which was really lucky- the weather took a turn for the worse, and I don’t believe there were anymore flights after mine that day.”
When asked how he felt about the whole experience, Alex said he played it cool up until the day.
“I wasn’t scared until we went up on the plane and flew through and over the clouds- that was a bit of a moment. Then the doors opened up, and I was first out….. edging towards that door was so nerve-wracking! But, I have no broken bones, and I can’t wait to do it again!”
Not only did he face his fears for a great cause, but Alex also raised an incredible £1,211.25 with Gift Aid to support Enable Ability.
His courageous leap will help us continue providing essential services to children, young people, and adults with disabilities in the Portsmouth and South-East Hampshire areas.
Thank you, Alex, for making such a meaningful impact on our community.
