The return of Enable Ability’s Over 25 Social Group got off to a brilliant start last week

Hosted at the Still & West, the first session marked an important moment for the group.

We last met in December last year and it was clear how much these evenings were missed by everyone who used to join us. There was an immediate sense of ease as people reconnected, conversations picked up where they left off and the table where we were sat was quickly filled with laughter, just like before.

What made the evening even more special was welcoming a number of new faces; seeing new people join the group so naturally alongside those who attended last year highlighted exactly what these sessions are about, creating an environment where everyone feels comfortable, included and able to take part in their own way.

A huge thank you goes to Fuller’s pubs for their continued support, and in particular to the team at the Still & West for being so accommodating throughout the evening. Special thanks also to Sian, the Sales and Events Manager at the venue, whose support helped ensure the session ran smoothly from start to finish.

This first session was intentionally kept simple, the focus was on reestablishing the group, allowing people to reconnect and settle back into the relaxed and welcoming atmosphere that made the group so successful before. The session was supported by James from Enable Ability, who hosted the evening and was available throughout.

Looking ahead, our next session is already shaping up to be a good gathering of individuals, building on the strong start that took place last week. It will take place at the The Old Customs House in Gunwharf Quays.

Date: Thursday 30th April
Time: 7pm

Those booking through the Enable Ability link will also receive 20% off all food and drink purchased on the evening.

Most importantly, these sessions are open and inclusive for everyone. They are free to attend, and there is no expectation to spend any money. If the 20% discount still isn’t affordable, you are very welcome to come along, have a tap water and be part of the group. The focus is on the connections made, not cost, and no one should feel unable to attend due to financial reasons.

Emma joined us for the first time last week, she told us she’d wanted to attend our sessions for a while due to feeling isolated, she doesn’t have anyone and was struggling due to her ADHD and anxiety. After the session, she shared with the group that she had a great time, she added “I am so glad that I finally pushed myself to come to an event, everyone is lovely”.

The upcoming session at The Old Customs House will begin to introduce additional elements to the group, including the attendance of a doctor from a local GP surgery. Tom will be there to offer guidance, listen to experiences and gather valuable feedback from those attending, ensuring that lived experiences continue to shape how the group develops moving forward.

With a strong turnout, new friendships already forming and exciting additions planned for future sessions, the return of the Over 25 Social Group is already proving to be a meaningful and much-needed space within the Portsmouth community. The next session promises to build on that momentum, offering a fun, safe and social environment for everyone who attends.
