This past academic year, we have been incredibly grateful to have been ‘Charity of The Year’ for the University of Portsmouth Athletics Team (UOPAT).
Ben (pictured above left), the RAG and Events Secretary for the UOPAT, first contacted us in August last year to let us know that the club wanted to support a local charity that makes a meaningful impact in the community- particularly through physical activity and exercise. When researching potential charities, Ben came across Enable Ability and felt we were a perfect fit!
The partnership has been nothing short of wonderful! Ben and his team have brought energy, enthusiasm and real commitment to supporting our work, and we are so grateful for everything they have done. From the very beginning, the team has been actively involved with Enable Ability, generously giving up their time to help run stalls at our 2025 Christmas Fair, and joining us at a couple of our wheelchair basketball sessions- It was here they experienced first-hand the impact of our services.
Throughout the year, the students organised their own pub quiz night fundraisers, and they also volunteered at the AJ Bell Great South Run which in turn generated a charitable donation towards their end total.
Thanks to the team’s dedication and hard work, an incredible £705.50 has been raised for Enable Ability. This donation will make a real difference to the children, young people and adults with disabilities who use our services across Portsmouth and South-East Hampshire.
We are delighted to learn that the Athletics Team was named the University of Portsmouth’s ‘RAG Club of the Year’ last week, after being shortlisted from 32 other RAG clubs within the University- certainly a true testament to all of their hard work! A huge congratulations to Ben and the whole team on this well-deserved achievement.
Ben has advised us that his fellow student, George, will be continuing the team’s support for Enable Ability into the next academic year! We couldn’t be more thrilled and look forward to working together again.
Thank you, Ben, George and everyone at the University of Portsmouth Athletics Team for your enthusiasm, generosity and commitment. Your support means so much to us and to the people we empower.
Thank you for making such a difference!
