The Over 25 Co-Production and Social Group enjoyed a relaxed visit to Bombay Express last night and shared their thoughts on the restaurant’s accessibility and overall experience. The group found the venue step-free throughout the dining area, with a layout that felt open and easy to move around, making it very accessible for wheelchair users.
The only difficulty with access is the toilets, the main facilities are located down a flight of steps, but staff explained that anyone with mobility needs could use the staff toilets on the ground level. These are more accessible in terms of location, although the space inside them is too limited for a wheelchair to fit.
The location of the restaurant itself was considered very good and easy to reach, with convenient bus routes nearby. Inside, the lighting was bright without being overwhelming, and the atmosphere was calm, even with traditional Indian music playing quietly in the background. Large windows allow plenty of natural light during the day and offer good views for people-watching at night. Seating was comfortable, with a mix of benches and standard chairs, and the interior decor was described as very authentic, including a striking ‘feature wall’ behind one of the sofas.
The food received particularly positive feedback, described as lovely, very tasty and served in generous portion sizes. Even when sharing items like rice, there was still plenty for everyone. The group appreciated the option to bring their own drinks, including alcohol, and found it helpful that glasses were provided by the restaurant. Being able to book a table for a larger group and view the menu in advance was also seen as a benefit.
Staff were friendly and attentive throughout the evening, although one member remarked that their dip kept being taken away a little too quickly, suggesting the service was very eager to clear plates. The only notable issue raised was the main toilets, which were cold and difficult to navigate because the lights were off and the switch was hard to find. This may be challenging for people with sensory or visual needs.
Overall, Bombay Express offered an enjoyable and accessible visit; with good food, friendly staff and a comfortable environment. Some improvements to the toilet facilities would help enhance the experience further, but the group felt the restaurant worked well for an inclusive social evening.
