What an unforgettable community moment!
Three weeks ago, Express FM hosted an incredible 54-hour Radiothon- and what a journey it was! The whole community rallied behind Ian James, popping in almost every hour with food, encouragement, and endless positivity to help keep him awake and motivated. His determination was absolutely phenomenal… and yes, he truly powered through all 54 hours!
We were pleased to hear that Ian had so many amazing visitors, including Shaun Williamson (EastEnders); many of Ian’s fellow Express FM presenters; staff from all three charities – Enable Ability, Spark Community Space, and Portsmouth Hospitals Charity- and many more, who came in throughout the challenge to lift his spirits and cheer him on. The studio door never stopped opening!
Throughout the radiothon, we tuned in as much as possible. Ian kept spirits high with competitions, shout-outs, and brilliant energy that brought donations pouring in. It was emotional to hear him speak from the heart in those final moments, overwhelmed with gratitude for everyone who supported him.
With donations still trickling in after the event, thanks to the generosity of Express FM listeners and the local and wider community, Ian raised a staggering £4,291, meaning each charity will receive £1,430! What an incredible achievement!
A HUGE thank-you to everyone who donated, shared the fundraiser, took part in competitions, or donated prizes – including Village Hotel Portsmouth, Hampshire Flag Company, Nosh Box, Chromatic Create, The Queens Hotel, and so many more!
Thank you to CP for creating and setting up the event webpage, and to Harrison RB and to all the people working behind the scenes at Express FM who made this event possible.
And of course… Ian, thank you. You brought three charities together in true unity and collaboration. We know those last 12 hours (and probably more!) were incredibly tough – we could hear it in your voice – but you kept going. You have inspired us all!
Community. Collaboration. Determination.
This event showed the best of Portsmouth, and we couldn’t be prouder!
